More news on 2008 Early Voting
Prof. Michael McDonald is compiling statistics on early voting across the country. Some of the figures are staggering. Here are some highlights:
- Colorado: Early voting is now 60% of 2004 total votes. 38.6% Dem, 36.7% Rep, 24.6% Other.
- Florida: early voting is 44% of 2004 total votes. 45.6% Dem, 38.2% Rep, 16.2% other
- Iowa: early voting is 26.3% of 2004 total votes. 48.3% Dem, 28.6% Rep, 23.1% other.
- Nevada: early voting is 49.2% of 2004 totals in Washoe County. 48.9% Dem, 34.3% Rep, 16.8% other. Washoe is a Republican stronghold.
These numbers are potentially good news for Obama. While how these people have voted is not known, given that Obama and McCain have about 90% support of their base you have to give the Democrat a good chance. It’s starting to look like Colorado, New Mexico and Nevada might end up safely in Obama’s column before Nov 4. That means McCain has to win Pennsylvania. There is no path for him without it.
